At Lyceum No. 37 in Nizhnekamsk, a 13-year-old seventh-grade student wounded a school employee with a knife during lessons, used pyrotechnics and tried to flee. He was soon detained by Interior Ministry officers and National Guard personnel. Police received the report at 8:56 a.m..
City mayor Radmir Belyaev said the student injured the woman’s arm; her life is not in danger and she is receiving medical care. According to preliminary information, he set off three firecrackers, then attacked the cleaner and hid. Officers seized a knife, a mask and tactical gloves from him.
Tatarstan’s Investigative Committee opened a criminal case on charges of attempted murder and negligence. The agency said that after a conflict with a technical staff worker, the teenager inflicted knife wounds and fired a signaling device. According to a Ura.ru source, the woman noticed the knife and tried to take it away, suffering cuts to her hands.
Students said two loud bangs were first heard in the corridor, after which panic began: children ran out of classrooms and tried to hide. A few minutes later, another sharp sound was heard, followed by screams. The teenager himself was also injured and taken to hospital. Students were later sent home.
No official motive has been announced. The boy’s father said his son had never complained, studied well and had not spoken about conflicts. The office of Tatarstan’s children’s rights commissioner told TASS that neither the family nor the child had been on any official register.
Telegram channels and media sources have put forward several possible explanations: emotional distress after the death of a girl he knew, possible bullying, and interest in far-right symbolism. Some students also said there were no stationary metal detectors at the school entrance and that security was handled by elderly women. According to SHOT, about 1.5 million rubles had been allocated for the lyceum’s security last year.
