Talks between Vladimir Putin and US special envoy Steve Witkoff ended in Moscow after lasting nearly five hours. Jared Kushner also took part on the American side, while Russia was represented by RDIF head Kirill Dmitriev and presidential aide Yuri Ushakov.
Neither the Kremlin nor the White House disclosed the substance of the discussions. After the meeting, Ushakov told reporters the conversation had been “constructive, very useful and substantive,” and said the sides had been able to discuss in detail prospects for further work toward a long-term settlement of the war in Ukraine.
According to Ushakov, the talks included territorial issues. At the same time, no concrete compromises were reached on the revised US peace plan. Moscow considers some of the proposed wording “more or less acceptable,” while other points drew criticism and require further discussion.
“Some of the wording proposed to us suits us,” Ushakov said, without giving details.
He added that the possibility of a meeting between Putin and Donald Trump would depend on progress toward a settlement. The Russian side also said it had received four additional documents besides the original 28-point US plan.
Against that backdrop, it emerged that the expected meeting between Volodymyr Zelensky and Witkoff had been canceled. According to Euronews, the Ukrainian president is returning from Brussels. Ushakov also said Trump’s representatives assured Moscow they would not travel to Kyiv after the talks and would instead return to Washington.
