A resident of the urban-type settlement of Novy Svet says that during the season water was supplied properly on schedule only about 20 times. According to her, locals can go without water for weeks, and at times the outages last longer than two or three days.
“For us in Novy Svet, if water was supplied properly on schedule 20 times over the whole season, that would already be good. We go WEEKS without water. When will this mess and abuse end?”
According to residents’ complaints, the problem affects not only Novy Svet but many other localities in Crimea. Some villages receive deliveries of technical water. It is purified less thoroughly than drinking water, so it cannot be used for cooking or drinking. Residents also say those deliveries are not always regular, making it difficult to plan daily life.
Voda Kryma, the state enterprise responsible for water supply on the peninsula, regularly receives angry messages through its social media accounts and Telegram channel.
“Not a good morning. Novy Svet has been left without water again. Why are we not getting water to our homes?”
One resident says water deliveries do not solve the problem on their own: carrying buckets up several floors is difficult, especially since the settlement lies on a slope and people have to haul water uphill.
“They should arrange water deliveries. But that will not meet people’s needs. Carrying buckets upstairs, and uphill as well, is simply unrealistic,” she says.
People in other places also complain about inaccurate announcements. A resident of Kerch says water on Budyonnogo and Voroshilova streets was first promised at 8:00 p.m., then at 5:00 p.m., but never arrived. Residents of Lozovoye in the Simferopol district are likewise demanding precise deadlines, saying approximate promises have been repeated for a third consecutive day.
