On September 7, 2025, on the 13th Sunday after Pentecost and the feast of the Assembly of the Moscow Saints, Patriarch Kirill of Moscow and All Rus conducted the Divine Liturgy at the Cathedral of Christ the Savior in Moscow.
After the service, the head of the Russian Orthodox Church addressed the faithful with a primatial message. His remarks were devoted to the start of a citywide religious procession beginning at the cathedral and heading to the Novodevichy Stavropegial Monastery.
The patriarch then led the procession, which was accompanied by a prayer service to the Moscow saints. This was reported on the official website of the Patriarchate.
According to the church’s account, the weather in Moscow was warm on Sunday, and about 40,000 parish representatives and Orthodox residents of the capital took part in the march. They walked from the Cathedral of Christ the Savior to Novodevichy Monastery in prayer.
The report says the last procession of comparable scale in the capital took place 10 years ago, in 2015. At that time, more than 10,000 people walked from the Kremlin to the Vysoko-Petrovsky Monastery led by the patriarch, who carried an icon of Saint Peter.
That ceremonial march was dedicated to the 700th anniversary of the beginning of Saint Peter’s ministry in Moscow and the 700th anniversary of the founding of the Vysoko-Petrovsky monastery.
