In late July, the Zamoskvoretsky District Court of Moscow received a lawsuit for the protection of honor, dignity, and business reputation filed by Grigory Valeryevich Alfeyev, better known as Metropolitan Hilarion, against his former cell attendant, Japanese citizen Georgy Suzuki.
The claim was submitted to a Moscow court based on Hilarion’s nominal place of residence in Russia. At the same time, the publication says the hierarch now actually lives in Karlovy Vary, Czechia. The Russian Orthodox Church’s Church of Saints Peter and Paul is located there, where, by order of the synod, he is to serve.
The report also states that the metropolitan spends a significant part of his time at his palace near Budapest and at a dacha in France on the shore of Lake Geneva. “Novaya-Europe” had previously written about those properties.
The outlet notes that Hilarion received Hungarian citizenship in September 2022.
The case has been assigned number 3359/2025. It is being handled by Judge Elena Viktorovna Perepechina.
The judge gave the claimant until September 9 to correct the formal deficiencies in the statement of claim.
