At the end of April, Rosobrnadzor issued an order banning the Moscow School of Social and Economic Sciences, known as Shaninka, from admitting new students for one year. The agency said the institution had failed to correct numerous violations identified during inspections.
According to the case materials, the supervisory body raised 774 complaints in total. They concerned licensing requirements, accreditation performance indicators, publication of information on the website, and rules governing paid educational services.
At the same time, the university says that only 10 violations from the full list remained uncorrected by the deadline. Even so, the penalty imposed was a one-year ban on enrolling new students.
In June, the university filed a lawsuit seeking to have the order declared unlawful. However, consideration of the case is expected to continue at least until October. Against that backdrop, the institution itself began preparing for a possible withdrawal of accreditation as early as the beginning of autumn.
“We do not have much faith that we will win in court against Rosobrnadzor,” rector Mariya Sigova said.
Students were promised assistance with transfers to other educational institutions if such a decision is ultimately made.
Shaninka is a non-state university in Moscow founded in 1995. The institution cooperated with the University of Manchester.
