In early August, Stanislav Belous, the coordinator of the “Russian Community” in Troitsk, Chelyabinsk region, was jailed for 10 days. The case stemmed from a complaint filed by his wife, Marina Belous, on June 18 after a conflict the previous day. The court imposed the penalty under Article 6.1.1 of Russia’s Code of Administrative Offenses, which covers battery.
On August 12, Marina Lesnikova gave a detailed account of the incident to the Telegram channel “Chelyabinsk Budushchego.” She said that after their marriage began to break down in January 2025, her husband started using violence, twisting her arms, choking her and hitting her. On the evening of June 17, while Belous was driving her home, he admitted to an affair, and an argument followed. Near Lesnikova’s house, she took his phone to speak to the alleged mistress and threw it away. In response, she says, Belous smashed her phone and attacked her.
According to Lesnikova, she called the police immediately after the assault, but officers did not arrive at once and did not detain Belous then.
An order for a forensic medical examination was issued only on June 20, and the examination itself took place on June 24. Lesnikova says experts recorded three bruises on her shoulders and forearms but did not take into account signs of strangulation or a jaw injury. Belous was detained only on August 2, about a month and a half after the incident.
Belous denies wrongdoing. In court, he said he did not know where his wife had received her injuries, filed an appeal, and argued that a “commissioned campaign” was being waged against him and the “Russian Community.” In the version published by his supporters, Lesnikova was intoxicated, attacked him herself, and he only restrained her hands and slapped her to prevent a traffic accident. Lesnikova denies that account.
The case drew attention amid a separate dispute involving the Troitsk branch of the “Russian Community.” Shortly before that, an interagency commission under the district administration publicly described the group for one day as “extremist” and “undesirable,” before the statement was withdrawn. Representatives of the movement linked the Belous case to pressure on the organization. Journalists from Novaya Gazeta Europe said they asked Belous and his associates to identify the alleged organizers of the campaign, but received no reply.
