In Krasnodar, a young man armed with a machete attacked visitors at a shopping center, the Interior Ministry reported. According to the Telegram channel Shot, the attack took place at West Mall.
Local media said the man, carrying a bladed weapon, entered a multifunctional public services center inside the mall and attacked the people there. They also reported that he set off a homemade firecracker inside the building.
Initial reports said there were two attackers. It was later clarified that a second person had been detained by mistake and was subsequently released.
According to the Investigative Committee and the regional governor, one woman was killed and five other people were injured in the attack. Among the injured was a mall security guard who helped restrain the attacker.
Reports said local residents assisted in detaining the man. After the incident, West Mall announced on social media that it would close indefinitely, without specifying the reason.
A criminal case has been opened over the attack. Officials are continuing to establish the full circumstances of what happened.
