On the night of June 22, air defense forces destroyed about 80 Ukrainian drones over Moscow, according to the city’s mayor, Sergei Sobyanin. Moscow authorities did not report any consequences of the raid.
Amid the attack, temporary restrictions on arriving and departing flights were introduced at Sheremetyevo, Vnukovo, Domodedovo and Zhukovsky airports. Their operations had resumed by morning.
As Novaya-Europe reported, residents of the Moscow region heard explosions, including in the Odintsovo district and Istra. A resident of Zvenigorod named Olga told the outlet that she woke up at about 3:50 a.m. because of a loud blast.
“I woke up from the roar, thought it was a thunderstorm, and then something exploded nearby, the windows rattled. It turns out the cat can run very fast. She disappeared immediately. And all the instructions I had read recently came back to me at once. My son got an alert on Telegram. It turned out to be a danger warning. I didn’t receive anything,” Olga said.
On the evening of June 21, messages saying “MOSCOW WILL BURN” appeared in Sobyanin’s personal Telegram channel, along with links to a fundraiser for drones for the Ukrainian Armed Forces. The channel was shut down shortly afterward.
According to the Russian Defense Ministry, air defense forces destroyed about 300 drones across the country overnight. In the Tula region, in the city of Shchyokino, a drone hit an apartment building.
