A new edition of Russia’s unified school history textbook will include information about the participation of North Korean troops in fighting in the Kursk region. RBC reported this, citing Mikhail Myagkov, research director of the Russian Military Historical Society.
According to him, the previous version of the text was prepared and published at a time when, he said, it was not yet known that North Korean troops had taken part in events in the Kursk region. Myagkov said work is now underway to supplement the text.
The previous version of the textbook was prepared and published “back when it was not yet known about the participation of North Koreans in repelling the aggression of Ukrainian Nazis against the Kursk region.”
Myagkov also said that a Russian military history textbook for 10th and 11th grades would be expanded with more detailed material on the use of drones, new weaponry, and new tactics used, in his words, “today in the zone of the special military operation.” A shorter version of that information is to be included in the unified history textbook.
One of the authors of the unified history textbook is former culture minister, presidential aide, and head of the Russian Military Historical Society, Vladimir Medinsky.
It was previously reported in January 2026 that the third edition of the history textbook series for 10th and 11th grades would cover what the authors call the “causes of the special military operation,” as well as the meeting between the presidents of Russia and the United States in Alaska in August 2025.
