Moscow’s Tverskoy District Court has ordered the arrest of former Aeroflot CEO Mikhail Poluboyarinov in a criminal case on abuse of official powers under Part 3 of Article 285 of Russia’s Criminal Code. The report was published by Mediazona.
Sources cited by Vedomosti confirmed Poluboyarinov’s detention. According to them, investigative actions are being carried out with the former airline chief, but his procedural status in the criminal case remains unclear.
The hearing on the pretrial measure took place at the Tverskoy Court on June 19. The reason for opening the case has not been disclosed.
Journalists note that before 2020, Poluboyarinov was a member of the management board of VEB.RF. In April, the same court placed current VEB.RF deputy chairman Artem Dovlatov under house arrest on the same charge. According to a Vedomosti source, Dovlatov’s case is linked to the bailout of banks under the state corporation’s previous management back in 2016.
Rostec’s press service told Mediazona that Poluboyarinov works at one of the state corporation’s subsidiaries. Asked whether it knew about his arrest, it replied: “Alas, we have no comment.”
The maximum penalty under the article cited against Poluboyarinov is up to 10 years in prison. He worked at Aeroflot from 2000 to 2009 as deputy CEO, then moved to VEB.RF, and in November 2020 returned to the airline as chief executive. He left that post in March 2022 after being placed under European Union sanctions.
A year later, RBC sources said Poluboyarinov had moved to Rostec, where he was expected to oversee financial support for the activities of the entire group of companies within the state corporation. In 2020, Forbes ranked him 52nd in its list of “100 state officials with the highest incomes,” estimating his wealth at 285.7 million rubles.
