Former Aeroflot chief Mikhail Poluboyarinov remanded in custody in Moscow

Moscow’s Tverskoy District Court has ordered the arrest of former Aeroflot chief executive Mikhail Poluboyarinov, according to Mediazona. He is accused of abuse of official powers, though the length of his pretrial detention has not been disclosed.

The outlet says the court arrested a man identified as Mikhail Igorevich Poluboyarinov. According to leaked Russian databases, there is only one person in the country with that full name: the 60-year-old former head of the airline.

Poluboyarinov led Aeroflot from November 2020 to March 2022. He left the CEO post after personal sanctions were imposed on him. Before that, from 2009 to 2020, he served on the management board of VEB.RF, the state corporation that finances major infrastructure and social projects.

The case materials do not specify what prompted the criminal proceedings. However, in April 2026, the same Tverskoy Court placed current VEB.RF deputy chairman Artem Dovlatov under house arrest on the same charge.

Sources cited by Vedomosti linked Dovlatov’s case to the investigation into the restructuring of Svyaz-Bank in 2016. There is no published confirmation that Poluboyarinov’s arrest is directly tied to that episode.

In March 2023, the former Aeroflot chief began working at Rostec. An RBC source said he was expected to oversee financial support issues across the entire group of companies within the state corporation. Rostec’s press service declined to answer Mediazona’s questions about Poluboyarinov’s possible arrest.

VEB.RF, previously known as Vnesheconombank, describes itself as the country’s main development institution, financing infrastructure, industrial, social and technology projects.

The US Treasury has described VEB as a state institution that services Russian sovereign debt, finances exports and major investment projects, and acts on behalf of or in the interests of the Russian government.
