Batyr Agaev, the brother of United Russia State Duma deputy Bekhan Agaev, holds Belgian citizenship and is involved in entities investing millions of euros in European real estate, according to an investigation by Important Stories. The outlet and its partners obtained access to data on the owners of companies and funds registered in Luxembourg.
Batyr Agaev is the son of former State Duma deputy Vakha Agaev, whom Ramzan Kadyrov had called a “dear brother.” The outlet Proekt previously wrote that the Agaev family belongs to the inner circle of the Chechen leader. After Vakha Agaev’s death in 2020, a street in Urus-Martan was named after him.
Journalists say Vakha Agaev founded the company Yug-Nefteprodukt in the late 1990s, which sold Chechen oil, and that he and his sons also held stakes in the Tuapse and Krasnodar oil refineries. According to Important Stories, the family invested proceeds from the oil business in real estate not only in Russia but also in Europe.
Documents from the Luxembourg register indicate that Batyr Agaev lives in Berlin and owns 56.16% of the real estate investment fund Everest One, established in 2019. The fund invests in commercial and office property in Germany, as well as hotels, medical facilities, and residential housing.
Batyr Agaev also owns 43.5% of Luxembourg-based Mimco Real Estate Holding. By 2022, the report says, that company had invested about 35 million euros in Germany’s Mimco Real Estate Holding Se & Co Kg, which was created for property investments.
Bekhan Agaev was first elected to the State Duma in 2011. He also founded the mixed martial arts club United Russian Fighters. According to Important Stories, the club and people associated with it help Russian troops in Ukraine; in particular, in 2024 it sent a “large cargo of humanitarian aid” to battalions involved in the war.
