Russia’s Ministry of Justice has added the human rights movement Krymskaya Solidarnost and the journalism project Ekho to the register of “foreign agents.” The information was published on the ministry’s website.
The updated list also includes the media group Avtonomnoye Deystviye and sociologist Elena Koneva, the founder of the research agency Extreme Scan.
According to the ministry, all of those added to the register had circulated unreliable information about Russian policy and cooperated with media outlets and journalists already designated as “foreign agents.”
The ministry separately stated that Krymskaya Solidarnost, in its view, “interacted with members of international terrorist organizations, as well as with Ukrainian state authorities.”
The movement itself is known for regularly covering the persecution of Crimean Tatars in cases involving alleged ties to the Islamist party Hizb ut-Tahrir, which Russia has designated as a terrorist organization.
The ministry’s press release also says that the project Inoveshchanie was removed from the “foreign agents” register. The agency said the decision was connected to the project’s liquidation.
