On the night of June 28, one person was killed in Slavyansk-on-Kuban in Russia’s Krasnodar region after what authorities described as a massive Ukrainian drone attack. Governor Veniamin Kondratyev reported the death.
According to him, several residential buildings in the city were damaged. A fire also broke out at an oil refinery, while a power transmission line and a gas pipe were damaged. No official overall damage estimate had been released at the time of publication.
Ukrainian Telegram channels circulated photos and videos showing thick plumes of smoke rising from the area of the facility.
The refinery in Slavyansk-on-Kuban is part of the Slavyansk ECO group of companies. It produces fuel oil, naphtha and marine fuel, and processes about three million tons of oil per year. It is considered one of the region’s major refining facilities.
The Krasnodar regional оперативный штаб also said drone debris fell in the hamlet of Trudobelikovsky in the Krasnoarmeysky district. Several private homes were damaged there. One person was injured and received assistance on site.
Air raid alerts were also sounded overnight in Anapa, though authorities reported no consequences from the strikes there.
The Russian Defense Ministry said air defenses intercepted 213 drones overnight over 12 regions in southern and central Russia, as well as over Crimea.
Earlier, Volodymyr Zelensky said the Ukrainian armed forces had struck two oil refineries in Russian regions. Russian authorities had not publicly reported one of those facilities.
