In Vyshneve, a town near Kyiv that came under a Russian strike on the night of July 6, there was an ammunition warehouse belonging to one of the enterprises of Ukroboronprom. Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky said this while speaking with journalists.
He described the incident as an “absolutely horrifying situation” that resulted in a large number of casualties. Zelensky also expressed condolences to those injured and to the relatives of those killed.
“But condolences alone are not enough. I have received all the information from the Security Service of Ukraine, the Interior Ministry, and the Prosecutor General’s Office. There is a criminal case, those responsible will be held criminally liable. And there will certainly be dismissals at Ukroboronprom, because the warehouse belonged to one of its enterprises,” he said.
On the night of July 6, Russia struck Kyiv and the surrounding region with missiles and drones. Vyshneve was among the targets, and a detonation began there after the attack.
According to the authorities, nine people were killed in the strike on the town. Nearly 300 residential buildings were damaged in Vyshneve, and 91 of them were completely destroyed.
Ukrainian Prime Minister Yulia Svyrydenko called it the largest-scale destruction of residential housing since the start of the war.
