Zelensky announces creation of a special command for long-range operations against Russia

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky, in his evening address, announced the creation within the Armed Forces of Ukraine of a special command for long-range influence on Russia.

According to Zelensky, the new structure is meant to consolidate all available capabilities in order to further reduce Russia’s military potential. He said the command should focus 100% of available resources on that task.

“This command must concentrate 100% of the resources available so as to further significantly reduce the military potential of the Russian Federation,” he said.

Zelensky did not specify who would lead the new structure. He only noted that it would be headed by a “maximally experienced” person.

The president also spoke about new effects from Ukraine’s long-range actions against Russia. In his assessment, a fuel crisis in Russia is deepening, which he described as a fair response to Vladimir Putin’s unwillingness to end the war.

“Today there are new results of our long-range sanctions against Russia: the fuel crisis in Russia is worsening, which is entirely fair in response to Putin’s unwillingness to end this war,” Zelensky added.

In addition, the Ukrainian president announced a reform of the assault troops and the creation of the Joint Rapid Reaction Forces. He proposed Brigadier General Dmytro Voloshyn to lead that formation.
