The course “Fundamentals of Russian Statehood” will become mandatory in all Russian universities

All Russian universities are expected to introduce four mandatory subjects for every student. This was announced by Russia’s Minister of Science and Higher Education, Valery Falkov.

According to him, the required disciplines will be Russian language, philosophy, history, and the course “Fundamentals of Russian Statehood”.

These subjects will be studied by all students without exception, regardless of their future profession, form of study, or level of education, Falkov said.

The minister did not specify when the new rules would take effect across the country.

The course “Fundamentals of Russian Statehood,” developed under the supervision of the political bloc of the Russian presidential administration, began to be taught in some Russian universities in 2023.

Sources in the Kremlin previously told Meduza that the main purpose of the course was to turn students into a “patriotic intelligentsia.”

As Meduza reported in its coverage of the course content, first-year students are told, among other things, that the annexation of Ukrainian territories was a “striking geopolitical victory” and that under Stalin the USSR supposedly had free elections and no political repression.
