New reports from Penza describe men being detained by people in military uniform

In Penza, people wearing military uniforms detained two men and, according to reports, later took them to Rostov. This was reported by the human rights project Idite Lesom, citing a local resident.

According to the source, a few days ago in the Akhuny district her uncle was detained along with another man who was with him. She said both men had been drinking at the time.

“They were drunk. Late in the evening, men in military uniform came up and dragged them into a car,” the project quoted the Penza resident as saying.

Later, the wife of the second detainee reportedly told the family that both men had already been taken to Rostov. Contact with them was then lost. Their exact location and what is happening to them remain unknown.

Reports of raids

On June 18, it became known that in Penza and the Penza region, security officers together with military enlistment office staff were conducting raids targeting men. According to human rights advocates, those detained during such operations were being pressured to sign military contracts for deployment to the war.

Regional police had earlier stated that such roundups “are planned in nature” and are periodically carried out across the region.
