American Senator Lindsey Graham has died in Washington at the age of 71. His office announced the politician’s death.
According to that statement, Graham died the previous evening after a brief and sudden illness. NBC News, for its part, reported that the cause of death was a heart attack.
Who Lindsey Graham Was
Graham was a Republican American politician. Since 2003, he had represented South Carolina in the US Senate.
The senator had consistently advocated support for Ukraine in its war with Russia. A day before his death, he held another meeting in Kyiv with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky. The two sides reportedly discussed stronger sanctions pressure on Russia, the battlefield situation, and Ukraine’s air defense needs.
Graham also supported imposing new measures against Russia. He was one of the authors of a bill to tighten anti-Russian sanctions related to energy exports.
In February 2024, Russia’s Federal Financial Monitoring Service added Lindsey Graham to its register of “terrorists and extremists.”
