On the night of July 12, Ukrainian drones attacked the oil refinery in Syzran, in Russia’s Samara Region. A fire broke out on the plant’s grounds, according to photos and videos from eyewitnesses geolocated by Astra. Footage of the burning refinery was also published by the Ukrainian monitoring Telegram channel Exilenova+.
Samara Region governor Vyacheslav Fedorishchev said the strike damaged private homes, apartment buildings, and one industrial facility. He did not specify which enterprise was hit.
According to Fedorishchev, the drone attack in Samara Region killed one person and left three others injured, including a child.
Rostov Region head Yury Slyusar said that the same night Ukrainian drones damaged a tanker as it entered the Azov-Black Sea shipping canal. He said the vessel was empty, no one was hurt, and there was no threat of an oil spill.
Slyusar also wrote on his Telegram channel that drones targeted Taganrog and Kamensk-Shakhtinsky, as well as the Azovsky, Neklinovsky, Tarasovsky, and Millerovsky districts, and the waters of Taganrog Bay.
“More than two dozen UAVs were destroyed,” the regional head said.
He gave no details on damage or casualties in Rostov Region. The Russian Defense Ministry said air defenses destroyed 349 Ukrainian drones overnight over several Russian regions, annexed Crimea, and the waters of the Azov and Black seas.
The Syzran refinery had been targeted before. At the end of May, it reportedly suspended operations after earlier drone strikes.
