Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky said that Yulia Svyrydenko will soon leave the post of prime minister. He wrote on his Telegram channel that the decision is linked to the fact that “Ukraine is changing its political strategy.”
According to Zelensky, each key foreign policy track should be handled by a separate person with significant experience. Among the priorities, he named cooperation with the United States, including the issue of missile supplies for Patriot air defense systems, as well as cooperation with the European Union in defense and on Ukraine’s accession to the EU.
The president also singled out relations with neighboring countries, which he said need a new foundation, especially Poland and Hungary. He additionally highlighted contacts with China and countries in the Middle East.
“The same applies to domestic work,” Zelensky wrote, referring to tasks in frontline and border regions that face daily Russian strikes, an increase in weapons supplies to the Ukrainian armed forces, including drones, and preparations for winter.
To implement the updated strategy, Zelensky said, personnel changes will be needed, including a renewal of the cabinet of ministers. He thanked Svyrydenko for what he described as clear, stable, and effective work as prime minister and added that she had been offered a new important role in relations with a key partner, without specifying further.
The resignation of the prime minister means the departure of the entire government. Svyrydenko has held the post since July 2025; before that, from November 4, 2021, she served as first deputy prime minister and economy minister. She replaced Denys Shmyhal, who had headed the cabinet since March 2020. Shmyhal was later appointed defense minister, but in January 2026 he left that role and became deputy prime minister and energy minister. According to UNIAN, Ukrainian media do not rule out that he may return as prime minister.
