Politician Boris Nadezhdin was released from the Dolgoprudny police station after being ordered to appear in court for a hearing on an administrative case filed against him. The outlet Sotavision reported this.
Nadezhdin was detained during the day on July 13. He is accused of displaying extremist symbols under Article 20.3 of the Russian Code of Administrative Offenses. The reported basis for the case was a link posted on his social media to a video that included a photograph of Alexei Navalny.
The court hearing on the protocol is scheduled for Friday, July 17.
Political context
In 2024, Nadezhdin ran in Russia’s presidential election. He was the only candidate publicly taking an anti-war position. However, the Central Election Commission barred him from the ballot, citing a high share of invalid signatures.
He later planned to take part in the State Duma elections due in September 2026. In mid-June, he submitted documents to the Central Election Commission as an independent candidate and began collecting signatures in support of his bid.
On July 10, Nadezhdin was designated a “foreign agent.” That status bars him from running in elections in Russia. In addition, Article 20.3, the provision cited in the case against him, also carries a ban on participating in elections for one year.
