Part of Sevastopol lost electricity after a strike on energy infrastructure, according to the city’s Russian-appointed head, Mikhail Razvozhayev.
He said a “special regime” had been introduced at city facilities, without specifying what measures it involved. He urged residents to conserve phone battery, disable background apps, and avoid overloading the power grid.
On the morning of July 14, sea passenger transport in the city was also suspended. Interfax, citing Sevastopol’s road and transport infrastructure directorate, reported the shutdown.
“The purpose of this strike is clear: to deprive Sevastopol residents of their normal living conditions and sow panic,” RIA Novosti quoted Razvozhayev as saying.
The monitoring Telegram channel Krymsky Veter reported that the likely target of the strike was the Balaklava Thermal Power Plant. During the night of July 14, Razvozhayev also said that five drones had been shot down in the Balaklava area, without giving further details.
In recent weeks, Ukrainian forces have stepped up drone strikes on energy infrastructure in annexed Crimea and in occupied parts of Ukraine’s Kherson and Zaporizhzhia regions. The Ukrainian military has said that from July 1 to July 7 alone, drones struck 50 electrical substations.
