Yulia Svyrydenko has declined an offer to become Ukraine’s ambassador to the United States after her expected resignation as prime minister in the near future. Ukrainska Pravda reported this, citing sources.
“Yulia refused completely. Simply — ‘go to hell,’” one of the publication’s interlocutors said.
According to the sources, Svyrydenko has not yet decided what she will do after leaving the government. One of them said she still has time and intends to make a decision by September.
On July 12, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky announced Svyrydenko’s resignation from the post of prime minister. Such a resignation means the automatic dismissal of the entire government. At the time, Zelensky said she had been offered leadership of a “new significant direction in relations with a key partner,” but did not provide details.
Ukrainian media had previously reported, citing sources, that Svyrydenko could become the new ambassador to the United States. On the same day, Interfax-Ukraine reported, also citing sources, that the current ambassador in Washington, Olha Stefanishyna, was stepping down of her own accord.
At the time the news item was published, there had been no official confirmation of Stefanishyna’s resignation. Ukrainska Pravda also reported that Zelensky wants to appoint Naftogaz head Serhiy Koretsky as the new prime minister, with his priority task being to prepare Ukraine’s energy sector for winter and possible Russian strikes.
