The Gazprom Neftekhim Salavat refining complex has suspended operations after an attack by Ukrainian drones, Reuters reported, citing two industry sources. The facility is one of the largest oil refineries in Russia.
According to the sources, the damage forced the shutdown of two primary crude processing units: ELOU-AVT-6 with a capacity of 17,140 tons per day and ELOU-AVT-4 with a capacity of 11,430 tons per day, which processes gas condensate. The sources also said several secondary units and other equipment were damaged.
Reuters’ sources said repairs could take from several weeks to several months. The company’s press service did not respond to the agency’s request for comment.
The attack on the plant took place on the night of July 14. Earlier, Bashkortostan head Radiy Khabirov said the main facilities had not been damaged and suggested the plant could fully resume operations within a few days.
The enterprise produces gasoline, diesel fuel, kerosene, and other petroleum products. According to Reuters, in 2024 it accounted for 2.7% of Russia’s total oil refining volume.
Amid repeated Ukrainian drone strikes, Russian refineries have repeatedly had to reduce output or suspend operations. Bloomberg previously reported that in June, Russia’s oil refining fell to its lowest level in 21 years. The article says this has worsened a fuel crisis in the country that has already lasted for more than a month.
