The Rostov Regional Court sentenced Ruslan Sichinava on July 10 in a case involving theft and the alleged attempted murder of a law enforcement officer. According to the court’s press service, the ruling followed a verdict by a jury panel.
The court gave Sichinava 4 years and 10 months in a general-regime penal colony. The case combined a theft episode with accusations of violence during his arrest.
According to the prosecution, the man committed a theft at a market in the Aksai district of the Rostov region. Investigators said he took more than 100,000 rubles from a pensioner’s car.
The prosecution also argued that during the arrest Sichinava used “a firearm and physical violence” against police officers. That episode formed the basis of the charge of attempting on the life of a law enforcement officer.
However, the jurors concluded that only the theft charge had been proven. On the accusation of attempting on the life of a law enforcement officer, they found him not guilty.
As a result, the final sentence was issued after the jury supported only part of the prosecution’s case — the part concerning the theft of the money.
