Politician Boris Nadezhdin said he had been barred from leaving Russia. According to him, the measure was based on an order from a court bailiff, and the notice appeared on the state services portal.
Nadezhdin wrote about the situation on social media. He said that overnight he received an order banning him from traveling abroad and is now reviewing the matter with his lawyers. He added that, by their preliminary assessment, the decision may be unlawful and that he intends to appeal it.
“Overnight I received an order banning me from traveling abroad. We are looking into it with lawyers. They say it is an unlawful decision. We will appeal.”
He did not specify what exactly was stated in the Federal Bailiff Service document or on what grounds the restriction was imposed.
On July 13, the politician was detained under a protocol for displaying “extremist symbols” under Article 20.3 of the Code of Administrative Offenses. The stated reason was a published link to a video broadcast containing a photograph of Alexei Navalny.
He was later released and ordered to appear in court on July 17. In addition, last week the Justice Ministry added Nadezhdin to its register of “foreign agents.”
Amid the mounting administrative pressure, Nadezhdin had previously said that he might leave Russia.
