On July 17, the European Union announced sanctions against Irina Kharisova, chair of the board of the ABS Electro group, as well as five companies linked to the group. The press service of the Council of the EU reported this.
According to EU authorities, all five sanctioned companies are part of ABS Electro. The group manufactures electronic and radio-electronic components for Russian drones used in attacks on Ukraine.
The EU statement says these include systems that improve the resistance of Shahed and Geran drones to electronic warfare and jamming.
As the European Union specified, the sanctions were imposed because of Russia’s “escalating aggression against Ukraine,” including the recent deadly strikes on Kyiv from July 1 to July 5, 2026, as well as a military campaign targeting civilian infrastructure.
Brussels thus linked the new restrictive measures not only to the production of drone components, but also to the use of those systems in strikes that, in the EU’s assessment, affect civilian sites in Ukraine.
