US President Donald Trump, after a 25-minute speech about the problems and vulnerabilities of the American electoral system, released the documents he had promised on attempts at foreign interference in elections.
As the outlet Agentstvo noted, the published materials include reports by US intelligence agencies on various attempts by Russia to influence election campaigns in the United States. Among other things, they refer to events ahead of the 2020 election, which Trump lost to Joe Biden.
US intelligence agencies had repeatedly stated before that Russia tried to influence US presidential elections in 2016, 2020, and 2024. However, Trump did not mention Russia in his speech and instead accused China of interference. Chinese authorities rejected those accusations.
After Trump’s speech, Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov again said that Moscow had not interfered in US elections.
“We reject any accusations, and we reject them decisively,” Peskov told reporters, according to TASS.
“Russia has never interfered in other countries’ internal affairs, and we expect that no one will try to interfere in our internal affairs,” he added.
Thus, the documents released by the Trump administration contain references to Russian actions, even though the US president in his public remarks chose to emphasize accusations against China.
