Aleksei Moskalev and his daughter Masha have been granted political asylum in France. The human rights group inTransit, which assisted the family, reported this, citing the Moskalevs.
According to the organization, the family arrived in France on a humanitarian visa in March 2026. Aleksei Moskalev is raising his daughter on his own.
The family’s case became widely known after events in the Tula region. Authorities focused on the Moskalevs after Masha drew an anti-war picture during an art class at school.
Later, in 2023, Aleksei Moskalev was sentenced to two years in a penal colony in a case over “discrediting” the Russian army. The charges were based on comments he had posted on the social network Odnoklassniki.
After Moskalev was first placed under house arrest and then sent to a penal colony, Masha was transferred to a social rehabilitation center. She was later taken by her mother, who, according to reports, had not previously been involved in raising her.
In 2024, Aleksei Moskalev was released from the colony and took his daughter back. They then left Russia together. Now, as inTransit said citing the family, they have received political asylum in France.
