The European Council announced sanctions in response to Russian strikes on Kyiv in July. The restrictions were imposed on Irina Kharisova, chair of the board of directors of ABS Elektro, as well as on five companies within the group.
According to the European Council, the ABS Elektro group includes companies that develop and manufacture electronic and radio-electronic components. The council said these products are used in Shahed/Geran-type drones.
The European Council also said that ABS Elektro develops and manufactures control systems for the energy sector, which generates significant revenue for the Russian budget.
The council identifies VNIIR-Progress as the group’s key enterprise working for Russia’s military-industrial complex. In particular, the company manufactures navigation modules for drones and missiles.
The parent enterprise of VNIIR-Progress is located in Cheboksary. The source material says it has repeatedly been targeted by Ukrainian drones. In particular, it was among the targets of Ukrainian strikes on June 10.
Since the beginning of July, Russian forces have carried out several strikes on Kyiv using ballistic and cruise missiles, as well as drones. According to the source material, those attacks left more than 10 people dead and dozens injured.
