Moscow’s Meshchansky District Court has ordered the arrest of 35-year-old scientist Maxim Kravchuk in a state treason case under Article 275 of Russia’s Criminal Code. The arrest was reported by RBC and Ostorozhno, Novosti.
The substance of the charges has not been disclosed. According to the available reports, Kravchuk was placed in pretrial detention in late June. His defense has appealed that decision, and the appeal hearing is scheduled for July 29.
According to Ostorozhno, Novosti, the defendant worked at the Moscow research institute TsNIIMash, which is part of the Roscosmos system. Kravchuk is described as a specialist in aerodynamics.
The outlet Agentstvo reported that the scientist traveled to Ukraine twice between 2016 and 2019. No further details of the case have been made public.
