FSB says it detained a man in Stavropol region suspected of preparing to blow up a war participant’s car

In the Stavropol region, the FSB said it detained a man born in 1977 whom the agency considers involved in preparing an explosion targeting the car of a participant in the war in Ukraine. The statement was published on the security service’s website.

According to the FSB, a criminal case has been opened against the detainee under articles covering a terrorist act and high treason. The agency claims the man contacted a representative of a Ukrainian security service on his own initiative and then began carrying out instructions from his handler.

The FSB says the suspect studied the former serviceman’s place of residence and began assembling an improvised explosive device that investigators believe was intended to be used to destroy the car.

After the detention, the agency says, officers seized components suitable for making an explosive device at home, as well as records of correspondence with the handler. The FSB press service also claims that the detainee has given a confession.

The FSB also released video showing the detention and questioning. In the footage, the man says he arrived in Stavropol region from another part of Russia on the handler’s instructions and kept the alleged bomb components in a garage.

At the time of publication, no independent confirmation of the FSB’s account had been provided.
