Back in August, the band announced that Lindberg had been diagnosed with cancer of the oral cavity and palate. It was this illness that led to his death. Prior to this, the musician had managed to announce the release of a new At The Gates album and record all vocal parts before his passing.
The band responded to the tragic news: "Thomas, you inspired each one of us. A sincere friend, responsive and full of compassion. We will forever cherish your generosity and creative energy in our memories. You will remain in our hearts forever, and we will miss you deeply."
Thomas Lindberg was one of the founders and the vocalist of the band At The Gates, which plays in the melodic death metal genre. The group was formed in 1990 in Gothenburg by former members of the death and black metal band Grotesque.
