The Belgorod region government has halted repairs for damaged property belonging to residents who have moved abroad, as reported by 7x7 citing regional governor Vyacheslav Gladkov.
Officials stated that restoration work for apartments and vehicles owned by those who left Russia will be postponed until after the war. A dedicated registry will track property damaged by AFU attacks during this period.
Gladkov claimed the decision originated from municipal leaders, with which he fully concurs—though he had previously proposed the measure himself during a regional government meeting on June 16.
"If people have relocated abroad, why prioritize spending on them when others here endure hardships and work under extreme conditions? [...] I question whether it's right to provide equal assistance to everyone. [...] Those with dual citizenship should seek support from their other country. Once the SWO concludes, we'll revisit these cases, but for now, we're suspending such repairs," Gladkov remarked.
Earlier, in mid-May, the governor alleged that some locals intentionally exposed their vehicles to shelling to claim compensation.
