According to Bloomberg agency, citing informed officials, European diplomats have conveyed to the Kremlin that the North Atlantic Alliance intends to use "all its power" in case of violation of its air borders, including the destruction of Russian aircraft.
During last week's meeting in Moscow with representatives of Russia, France, Germany, and the United Kingdom, the European side expressed serious concern about the incident involving the penetration of Russian fighters into Estonian airspace on September 19. Following the negotiations, EU diplomats assessed this move as deliberate and sanctioned by Russian authorities.
As reported by Bloomberg, according to one Russian official's version, the violation of Estonia's borders is connected to Ukrainian Armed Forces attacks on annexed Crimea, which, in Moscow's view, are impossible without NATO support.
According to sources, Russian participants of the meeting meticulously recorded the discussions. European diplomats suggested that they were tasked with preparing a detailed report for leadership about the Alliance's position.
Three MiG-31 fighters were in Estonian airspace for approximately 12 minutes, which provoked a sharp reaction from NATO countries. This incident occurred just one week after a mass flight of Russian drones over Polish territory, when the Alliance for the first time made the decision to destroy them.
