Scientists and law enforcement officers may be allowed to search for “extremist” materials on the internet. The proposal is included in amendments for the second reading of another package of anti-fraud measures prepared by the Digital Development Ministry, Forbes writes.
The ministry proposes permitting searches for “extremist” materials for scientific and research purposes. In addition, such information could be accessed within the framework of lawmaking and law enforcement activities, “including for the purpose of countering extremism.”
This package of measures was passed in its first reading in February, after which it was recommended for revision.
The law banning searches for “extremist” materials came into force in September 2025. After that, at least three people were fined, Mediazona notes.
