Russia’s Federal Security Service said it had detained, in its account, the perpetrators and accomplices involved in planned attacks on the Ukrainka military airfield in the Amur region and the Shagol airfield in the Chelyabinsk region. The agency claims the operation had been prepared by Ukrainian intelligence services.
According to the FSB, Ukrainian intelligence officers moved FPV drones into the Bryansk region, after which members of what it described as an “enemy agent network” transported them toward the airfields. The service says the drones were carried in vehicle trailers with false bottoms and then taken to garages near the facilities.
There, the agency says, the drones were assembled and prepared for launch. In its statement, the FSB said that
“every unlawful act was under close operational control by Russian special services and was documented.”
The FSB did not disclose the names of those detained or details of their biographies. It said searches led to the seizure of 24 drones, two mobile ground control stations, and communication devices allegedly used to stay in contact with Ukrainian handlers.
The statement also refers to Operation Spiderweb, carried out by Ukraine’s Security Service in June 2025. In that operation, Ukrainian drones attacked military airfields in four Russian regions.
According to previously published reports, the drones used in that operation had been hidden inside frame houses transported by five truck drivers. One of them died, while the others were arrested in a terrorism case. Relatives and acquaintances of the drivers said they had not known the drones were concealed there.
