A deadly shooting at a Wagner Group-controlled gold mine in the Central African Republic has left 11 people dead, according to an Associated Press report citing local sources and aid workers.
The incident occurred on Wednesday, July 16, at the Ndassima mine, located roughly 450 kilometers east of the capital, Bangui. Witnesses suggest the victims—villagers scavenging for leftover gold and gravel—were summarily executed.
"Unemployed youth have no option but to sneak in at night to gather gravel," one local told AP, noting that access to the site remains restricted. Several individuals remain unaccounted for following the violence. Neither national authorities nor regional officials have commented on the incident.
