The Leninsky District Court in Ekaterinburg has ordered a two-month detention for the son of Azerbaijani diaspora leader Mutvala Shykhlinski, according to E1 news outlet.

His custody period extends through September 14.

Authorities apprehended Shykhlinski Jr. on July 15, accusing him of assaulting a law enforcement officer.

The incident occurred on July 1 near Baku Plaza, where police stopped Shahin Shykhlinski while he was driving with his son. When the windows of their Mercedes G-Class were smashed, the vehicle reversed and struck a special forces officer.

The younger Shykhlinski stated he reversed the car believing they were under attack.

"It wasn't intentional. I didn't see him—he was on my right side, as I later found out," he explained.
