Polish border guards have detained Pussy Riot member Aisoltán Niyazova on the Lithuanian border. This was reported to "Novaya Gazeta Europe" by another representative of the art collective, Lucy Stein.
According to Stein, Niyazova resides in Lithuania for humanitarian reasons and was traveling to Poland to pick up a puppy. During a document check, border guards discovered a request from the Turkmenistan branch of Interpol, issued as far back as 2002, which served as the basis for her detention.
Niyazova is currently in the town of Lipsk near the border, Stein specified. The activist is planned to be transferred to a police station in nearby Augustów. As reported by the publication "Mozhem Ob'yasnit," police officers informed Niyazova that her detention would last until Monday, when a court hearing is scheduled.
This is not the first time Niyazova has been detained at the request of the Turkmenistan Interpol office. A similar incident occurred in 2022 in Croatia: at that time, the activist was held in custody for several days before being released.
