Pussy Riot member Aisoltani Niyazova, detained in Poland, was not removed from the Interpol database because she had served a criminal sentence in Russia, not in Turkmenistan, and only for one episode. This was reported in the response of the Interpol commission to a request for Niyazova's removal from the database, dated 2023, as another member of the collective, Lucy Stein, told Novaya Gazeta Europe.
Earlier, Niyazova was detained at the border of Poland and Lithuania based on a request from the Turkmen branch of Interpol, issued back in 2002. According to the version of the Turkmen authorities, while holding the position of chairman of the Board of Directors of the "Industrial Export Bank," she joined a criminal group, stole 40 million dollars, and transferred them to Russia, Latvia, and Hong Kong.
