RCN is seeking to restrict access to the digital storytelling site Wattpad, citing concerns over content promoting LGBTQ+ themes.

Russia's communications watchdog Roskomnadzor has announced potential restrictions against the Wattpad platform in the country, according to a statement provided to TASS.

The regulatory body alleges that Wattpad hosts content breaching Russian legislation, including what it describes as "promotion of non-traditional sexual relationships."

Officials report that the platform has failed to delete 130 pages containing what they deem "illegal content" despite Roskomnadzor's requests.

The agency warned that if Wattpad continues distributing prohibited materials and disregards compliance demands, access to the service may be restricted across Russia.

Wattpad operates as a digital publishing space where users share and read various written works, including articles, short stories, fan fiction, poetry, and novels.

Earlier this year in February, a Moscow court imposed a 3.5 million ruble fine on Wattpad for violating administrative code Article 13.41(2) by allegedly failing to restrict content about same-sex relationships.
