Residents from border areas of Belgorod Region who evacuated their homes are raising widespread complaints to Governor Vyacheslav Gladkov regarding insufficient police presence and local authorities' failure to act. The regional leader addressed these concerns during an operational briefing.
Gladkov reported that evacuees from Shebekinsky, Gaivoronsky, Volokonovsky and neighboring districts worry about their abandoned properties' security following their forced relocation from frontier zones.
The governor specifically mentioned Murom village, home to approximately 250 residents, lacks any police presence. Similarly, Mokraya Orlovka village hasn't had law enforcement patrols for an extended period. While self-defense units operate in border areas, their role remains restricted to coordinating with police and doesn't extend to safeguarding evacuated properties.
"We need to intensify efforts in this area. Citizens demand it. The president demands it. We must deliver results. <...> I refuse to avoid eye contact when people ask why their homes were ransacked and what preventive measures we've implemented," Gladkov stated.
Border district residents persistently report looting incidents in their communities, with suspicions that Russian military personnel might be involved among the perpetrators.
"On June 14, we finally inspected our properties. Two homes showed forced entry - one door pried open with a crowbar, windows shattered. Evidence of occupation included two bicycles stolen from neighbors, unidentified oil/gasoline containers, and packaging remnants bearing Russian military ration logos," a local resident commented on Gladkov's VK social media page.
