Margarita Simonyan, editor-in-chief of Russia Today, informed her followers that she is undergoing treatment for cancer.
"I would love to say that everything is fine with me, but I always try to tell the truth. Tigran is still in a coma, and I am being treated for cancer. What could possibly be good about this? Soon you will see me in wigs. Together we will decide which one looks better," the journalist noted in her Telegram channel.
On September 7, on the program "Sunday Evening with Vladimir Solovyov," Simonyan shared that doctors had diagnosed her with a "serious and terrible illness." The following day, she reported having undergone surgery. The propagandist did not disclose the exact diagnosis but hinted that the surgical intervention concerned her breast ("The surgery is right here, under this medal," "When we remember the girls from 'Young Guard' who knew their breasts would be cut off while they were alive—not like me, under anesthesia...").
The Moscow Times, citing an informed source, reported that Simonyan had been diagnosed with cancer. According to the publication, RT's management is considering the possibility of her stepping down from her position following news of her illness.
In January, it became known that Margarita Simonyan's husband, journalist and director Tigran Keosayan, had suffered clinical death and was in a coma. Eight months later, he has still not regained consciousness.
