The Lefortovo Court in Moscow has received a detention request for an individual whose surname and initials match those of Sergey Grebennikov, head of the Russian Association of Electronic Communications (RAEC), in a state treason investigation. Mediazona initially reported this development.

A BBC source verified that the treason case involves RAEC's leader. The source suggested the new charges may stem from evidence uncovered during searches conducted in an earlier narcotics case.

Court records show the treason case was filed on July 10, with the initial hearing occurring the same day behind closed doors. Details of the allegations remain undisclosed.

In late May, Moscow's Tverskoy District Court convicted Grebennikov of attempted drug trafficking, sentencing him to seven years' imprisonment. His arrest in this separate case occurred in January 2023.

Established in 2006, RAEC represents Russia's digital business sector, with members including major companies like Interfax, Medialogia, DomClick, Ostrovok, VKontakte, and Rostelecom. Grebennikov assumed leadership of the organization in 2022.
