Edward Snowden, the former NSA contractor now holding Russian citizenship, acquired his Tax Identification Number from Russia's Federal Tax Service Office No. 17 in Lyubertsy. Investigative outlet "Systema" identified this through analysis of his TIN digits.

The initial four digits (5027) of Snowden's TIN correspond to the Lyubertsy tax office, which also covers nearby districts including Dzerzhinsky, Kotelniki, and Lytkarino.

While Snowden and his wife, Lindsay Mills, have kept their exact residence private, Mills has shared Instagram posts featuring Moscow's Lublinsky Forest Park—located a short distance from Lyubertsy—as well as photos taken near Volzhskaya metro station, the closest stop to the park.

Snowden has resided in Russia since 2013 after fleeing U.S. charges related to exposing classified NSA surveillance programs targeting both American and foreign citizens. Reports indicate he accessed approximately 1.7 million secret documents, which he later provided to journalists. In 2015, the bulk collection of phone records was ruled unlawful. If convicted in the U.S., he could face a maximum 30-year sentence.

Russian President Vladimir Putin granted Snowden citizenship in 2022, with the whistleblower receiving his Russian passport the following year.
