Russian hip-hop radio station STUDIO 21 has announced that it will cease broadcasting in the near future after about nine years on air.
“Nine years ago, a unique project was born in our country, and we called it STUDIO 21. For nine years, we raised musical culture to a new level. Nine years is a long time for any brand. And you probably already understand where this is going. In the near future, STUDIO 21 will stop broadcasting. Thank you for everything,” the station’s team said.
STUDIO 21 described itself as the only radio station in Russia devoted entirely to hip-hop culture. The project was launched in 2017 and broadcast in dozens of cities across Russia.
The station aired tracks by Russian and foreign hip-hop artists as well as music by emerging performers. In addition to music programming, it also produced its own original shows.
In March 2026, a Moscow court fined STUDIO 21 500,000 rubles under the article on drug “propaganda.” The case was based on the broadcast of rapper ROCKET’s song Monday, which includes the line: “In the forest with my girl: quietly, we’re gathering cones.”
According to an expert assessment cited in the case, the track creates an attractive image of drug use. The station’s closure announcement came several months after that court ruling.
