The t.me domain, which Telegram uses for short links, has stopped working worldwide. As a result, links in that format no longer open in a browser.
At the same time, the telegram.me domain, which is also used for links to Telegram chats and channels, continues to function, even though it belongs to the same domain zone and is handled by the same registrar.
The outlet Kod Durova reported that the domain was suspended at the registry level for reasons that remain unknown: t.me was given serverHold status. The publication notes that such a status may be applied because of a legal dispute, an internal review, law enforcement requests, violations of registry rules, or a technical error.
The t.me domain belongs to the national domain zone of Montenegro. The registry operator is the company doMEn.
According to Kod Durova, the issue is not related to blocking by Roskomnadzor or Russian telecom operators.
Telegram founder Pavel Durov contacted the registrar on X, asking for an explanation for the domain suspension.
“Hey domainME, t.me links stopped working. Please look into what’s going on?”
At the time of publication, the registrar had not explained why the domain had been blocked.
